INTRODUCTION

Software Freedom Day (SFD) is an annual worldwide celebration of the free/open-source software. SFD is a public education effort, not only to celebrate the alleged virtues of free and open source software, but also to encourage its use, to the benefit of the public.

In Nepal, Software Freedom Day is being celebrated since last two years. Every year we celebrate the day with several events like documentary show, distro demo, and many more..

FOSS Nepal Community and High Level Commission for Information Technology (HLCIT) are jointly taking lead in organizing the third Software Freedom Day Celebration in Nepal on September 15, 2007 with the theme Linux for Desktops. For the list of official sponsors for SFD, see here.

Documentary Show

Something for the visitors who want to know something extra about FOSS Movement. Documentary show will be on throughout the day with two or three documentaries related to FOSS. Please check the event schedule to grab the seat on the right time.

Distro Demo

Distro Demo is a showcase of various Linux (and other FOSS Operating System as well) Distributions. If you have been puzzled by the large number of Linux distros, this is the right place to be. This time as per the theme, SFD 2007 will be focusing on distros that are made for desktop use.

Software Freedom Day is kind of Dashain for FOSSians. So why not have some fun at the end of the day?

Decoration

Not Actually an Event but a way to spice up the events on SFD. It ranges from Life size tux, flex,logo exhibition, balloons to anything available. Obviously bit of work will be focused on how to utilize the goods material teams have :) . Lets brainstrom design and add anything we like to make event more memorable, colourful and eyecandy.

PROJECTS

Freedom Toaster

Freedom Toasters are conveniently located, self-contained, computer-based, 'Bring 'n Burn' facilities.

Like vending machines, preloaded to dispense confectionery, Freedom Toasters are preloaded to dispense free digital products, including software, photography, music and literature.

For the SFD 2007, we are gearing up to build our very own freedom toaster.

FOSS Documentary

An attempt to make a documentary on everything being done in the field of FOSS in Nepal. Wont be that professional but we'll try to cover everything..
