- talk about Nepalinux, as being involved with MPP have to talk

- about minister being highly educated and its a good opportunity for FOSS to interact about technology

- within 20mmonths of this ministry's tenure, narrow digital divide within the country.

- Tux arrives

- 8 years ago digital divide has been popular, word taken in english, more in to nepali, digital doori/khadal, most people talk in english, how to get over it? nepali lai apahelana garnu hudaina

- addition to FOSS softwares, softwares in nepali language and nepali softwares should be developed/workd upon so that it becomes a part of common / general people.

---example bus ticket system, not just interface but into data processing system ocr, printing, ...

- muluk bhari FOSS software

- what i see is tomorrow's Nepal, new nepal, what we can provide is software development, computers hardware are there but the medium is poor.

---we are not able to utilize technology and think a thought of 10 years ago.
---technology lag, it comes here later
---celluloid film, Camera, ... comes late

- to take softwares, technologies into the masses, technology isn't the barrier, the barrier is medium through which we take it.

- for more info for media, can talk with shankar, ..

- shouldn't be dependent for softwares for foreign countries,

- for work and economy we should be dependent on them.

- to be independent we should promote FOSS and this is the start of being independent

   --- FOSS from budhanilkantha

- Its been 8 7 years, still we haven't been able to to take this in large scape

- is it good for the country to be dependent on just a single Large software company? hopefully media and everyone involved will take this into consideration. Changes will occur

- Stopping the brain drain and using the local manpower to empower the country

- give the ghosana patra to the atithi, guests

  • madan pariyar ji (HLCIT) secretary

- I'm happy about FOSS events being organized, congratulate to everyone

- nirvikalpa very strong name. Actually for Nepal, where we cannot buy softwares, OpenSource softwares can stand as the only possible form of software.

- We have been using proprietary softwares without complying to the terms and restrictions it demands

  ---Needs huge financial resource
---But not possible for country like ours
---So, piracy, as a illegal act, is entertained

- HLCIT is trying to promote FOSS, add up on Dixit's talk on Digital divide, how can they be done?

- talk about telecenters, organize capacity building programs, invited people involved in FOSS and give trainings.

- in government sector, promote FOSS, organized a migration to FOSS a whole day program with people involved in FOSS,

- two newsletters good coverage of free and open software, it has a good circulation nationally and internationally

- revising IT policy 2000 to include e-governance and e-commerce and also promote foss and include them

- ICT development project and egovernance project 31.2Million dollars, also in this we'll make sure FOSS maximum use, try our best

- egovernance project and applications design, FOSS will be used excessively.

- thanks to everyone, lets make a big campaign, not just awareness, take actions as well

- glass is half empty glass is half full

---Glass is half filled in the educated community
---Glass is half empty is the rural uneducated area. A lot needs to be done to bridge this gap.

- impressed with two things

---increase local talent( for this we can help in any ways, SAARC delhi science and technology conference - chips revolution vs science and technology revolution)
---take everyone as fighters in chips revolution

  • bibek poudel

- details of todays program

  • Manohar Bhattrai HLCIT

- Some major works done with FOSS in consideration - egovernance - challenging task - open source and open standards should reflect in this - FOSS should be vigilant toward bringing its talk forward. - FOSS brought on national policy debate - IT policy revision... categoric mention of FOSS - i'll repeat, FOSS and its interest in Nepal, technology is not enough, innovations is necessary, innovation in usage, how to use?.. Technology and innovation should go more side by side and hand in hand. - platform for innovation, no vendor lock

- FOSS strategic framework for action beyond rhetoric beyond nara. Focus on activities and not only on rhetorics.

- its easy to talk but there are challenges.

-- egovernance support based challenges, mission critical challenges support from FOSS
-- ktm is not enough, so what should be done to increate the community support as a whole Nepal, expansion of ideas and expertise beyond kathmandu is necessary
-- FOSS another potential in education sector, participate in US , david wiley a pioneer

- due to technology we can read MIT, Stanford , ... we can adapt - with respect to tools, MIS system, teaching materials, interact with student, whole platform is FOSS. - work in cms, drupal increase nepali content - can teach any slc passed student to work in content generation

- **component based programming, library of components in public domain, maintain a repository - **interesting model LTSP, deployments could be better. Old and legacy hardware can be utilized in schools, learning platform can be enhanced - **Integration of FOSS in education, expansion of local FOSS based community in cities like Pokhara and other.

- Technology dependence is increasing. So, it is the high time for the FOSS to enter in the main arena. Focus on creating easy, accessible, and reliable FOSS based model. - Future of our country lies in the use FOSS.

- Assistive technologies for elder people and examples like electronic voting machine, etc

- E-governence can be made equally accessible in villages and cities as well.

- education powers technology and technology powers education. Lets help education and technology to grow in synergy.

  • Bibek poudel

- support and challenges talk by manohar bhattrai

- voting machine software debate in US, had it been made opensource, no problem would have occurred

- its a social and political interest and view

  • Dr. Subarna Shakya

- Enough of talk, lets get to work.

- my link with FOSS from the very beginning, so feeling happy about its progress

- Erroneous curriculum in schools, focuses on a product of a company (shows monopoly and dependency). New course is under revision and will incorporate the correction to this problem. Focus on utility rather than software. (word processing rather than Microsoft Word)

- Gov secetor, data center... implementation of FOSS is necessary.

- everyone work together.
