Orientation workshop on Free and Open Source Software (FOSS)

For: BIM 4th Semester and Prime IT club Students

Jointly Organized by: Prime IT club and FOSS Nepal Community

Date: July 25, 2010(Sunday)

Venue: IT Park, Kavare, Nepal


Objective: The objective of this one day workshop is to orient students of BIM 4th semester about FOSS, various development happening about FOSS in Nepal and how they could either be part of any existing OR initiate any new ideas or projects on FOSS.


Note 1. : The first half of the workshop will be more informative and sharing. Whereas the second half will be more about students, FOSS team members and Prime IT Club students working in groups and discussing, planning and developing action plan for their FOSS projects and ideas.


Note 2: This document will be updated in the Prime College IT club wiki (http://primeitclub.pbworks.com/Orientation-workshop-on-Free-and-Open-Source-Software) for anyone to view, comment, edit or provide thier feedback. What are the various works that these intiatives have taken forward, with focus on «How the students can be part of these activities.?

Need to talk with them to share about various happenings about FOSS In Nepal.

We need a deep discussion (ie why 45 min) about the idea itself, what does the final outcome looks like, how the things can make happen, who can take the key responsibilities, what could be the areas of contributions, how the project is going to be communication going to be established and maintained, Do we agree to any specific timeline for some specific output?

Groups who adhere to same ideas meet at specified place to discuss how to take on the project ahead

All the ideas leads will take the responsibility to facilitate the discussion, One each member will try best to be present in each discussions, to fell the nerve and provide input where needed

Need to share about the evolutionary process and how it is going to bring on team collaboration and project focus. Also identification and introduction of other FOSSians will open up collaboration outside the college premises itself only.

Posting of the outcomes Open Space Sessions on the News Wall, in the Flip charts, Chart papers, paintings or even Speed geeks tables.

The idea lead person will put up the discussions highlights in the Wall which s/he prepared during the Open Space Discussions, All participants read, review these outcomes in walking rotation. Read and Walk

Everyone is responsible for ensuring that they have read and digested the multifaceted discussion that took place in their groups and other groups and visualize the holistic picture

News Wall to be prepared and a major oucome to be drawn for summarization and closing.
